Pet Regenerative Medicine
Regenerative medicine is a fascinating new field of medicine that aims to use and enhance the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
The use of multi-potent stem cells, which can differentiate into a range of cell types and so enable the repair, regeneration, and enhanced function of damaged or diseased tissue, has been a major emphasis.
Over the last decade, techniques have been developed to make the use of autologous stem cells, or cells produced from a patient’s own adipose (fat) tissue, easier. Mesenchymal stem cells are cells formed from adipose tissue. They can develop into cells that create bone, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage, among other tissues.
The stem cells are collected, purified, and concentrated before being injected directly into the affected areas of the body. Cells can be grown in the lab to increase their numbers and preserved for later use once they’ve been collected and processed.
Tendon and ligament injuries, as well as osteoarthritis, are among the current applications for stem cell treatment (SCT) in veterinary medicine. Multiple institutes are currently conducting research on the possible use of stem cells in a variety of various illnesses, including immunological mediated disease and organ failure.
